The Paper Issue 188 is online folks - go have a look. [oh, and, it looks like vomit!]
I hope this is a permanent link to a very amazing concept which no doubt will take a few more years to come about.
And gentle reader I have had a crappy week again at work. Plus a friends Mum died the other day and the funeral is tomorrow. She was a christian and so the emotions are mixed - sort of ok cos she is in heaven but also missing her and feeling for the familty too who will miss her more than words can say.
And I have to tip my hat to James who really liked my Pic of him in this weeks The Paper [OnLine soon (for non regular viewers I have a pic of james in a blue wig which I have used every issue for a while and I - oh just take a look and then look back at other issues, you'll work it out.)] I liked it a lot, but it's always nice when others do too.
Whilst in a hat tipping mode may I do a tip to Matty D who dropped by BB just as we were leaving and cheered me up - I can't put my finger on what exactly it was about his visit that cheered me but it did.
Well, off to put up The Paper and then to bed. This weekend is Squad Comp Camp and when it isn't freezing cold and raining I am sure it will be good.

Man what a crazy couple of days. Car trouble, of course, today I spent all day watching the lube mobile guy install a new water pump, test it, find a leak in my radiator, replace it, get covered in water cos the thermostat was also locked closed creating a huge pressure build up and then finally get home. But I was blessed in that it was the guys last day and so he didn't charge me for all the hours he worked and he was good natured about a simple job that took almost 3 hours to do and got him and the inside of his van covered in radiator water.
Cost a lot more than I expected but I am again back on the road. Monday afternoon was when it all began with me getting a tow home. Tuesday I got up very early and took Steve to work and borrowed his car - we then were up until midnight replacing the water pump with the one off Big Red - but that pump also leaked and so today I ended up breaking down half way to work with overheating problems. Which means that I am completely worn out and am off to bed. Not sure when this will be posted as Blogegr is currently doing server maintainance. Cheers.

Well the video got done, and although there was a slight technical hitch, I got a good report from someone who'd I least expect!! I'll put the movie up tomorrow as I only just got it done in time to get to church for band practice. I will also be making a special version and taking it to BB on Thursday, it will include the missing beginning and also some scences, which although aren't rude or anything evil, just didn't quite seem right to show at church.
And I finally got around to checking the latest entry in my Guest Book and found out that my Mum reads my blogg! So hi mum, sorry I didn't call on Sunday but the video tied me up. Well I better get to bed, I might deal with work more effectively if I get more sleep too! This week will be reports reports reports as I do my own and organise everyone elses [I run the reporting system at westfields] and implement a new system. To all those IPT students out there, don't forget parallel [and to some extent phased] implementation involves a lot of work for those doing it!!!! I know, cos that's what I'm doing with the reports, sort of a phased parallel implementation which means I get to run two systems at once .... oh the joy.

Just found out that Rob won't be getting his 1.9XP today :(
Today I am working on a video for tonight's Brigade service, if I get it done in time then you all might get a chance to see it. Otherwise I will put it up after the service. Rob is supposed to be getting his 1.9XP today, which although I know sounds like a gun or maybe a European car is, I am lead to believe, l33t speak for a new computer - presumably running at 1.9Ghz and with that abortion of an OS known as XP. Well I know he will have fun so keep those eyes well peeled and I am sure his cam or blogg will reveal something.

The Paper Issue 187 is now online - contains photos from Last years Squad Comp Camp, another quote from James, sport results, PASTA and Calendar. Enjoy.
Just got back from seeing Star Wars Ep 2 - and I have struggled, do I write about it, or not, I mean every person on the planet has probably written about, what more can I say - and a lot of that stuff I read. Well, I'm gonna write about it, I think it is the duty of every person with a voice on the net to comment on SW:2, we all have a destiny and writing about SW2 is that destiny...... hmmm that's so bad it could have come from the movie.
I loved it. Every poor line, pathetic joke, special efffect scale issue, every space ship which cross light years but give you no space to go the toilet, each [thankfully few] appearance of Ja Ja Binks, every young upstart vs old wise one predictable humour, every costume change of Queen [excuse me] Senator Armadillo, every dodgy line of C3PO's. I loved it.
The sweep and granduer was there all over again, more sweepier and grandier than ever, movie CG has reached another level. The film is spectacular, inside, outside, cityside, planetside, asteriod field side, no matter where you went it rocked. The story moved along and felt just about right, although I thought the ending took me by surprise - I rekon they will make another movie, I know it's a wild idea but so many things are left hanging. I don't think I can say much more without giving the game away but - look for shadows, sabres, things that go boom!, clones, storm troopers, the good guys becoming bad guys, and Fuzzy Bear moving like he never moved before
In my book it's worth 5/5 Green Light Sabres!

Part of the University of Adelaide the Wearable Computer Laboratory has two projects which put this technology into a context which is useful, and fun. But mostly I guess it goes to show that wearable computers do indeed have use other than just a very cool geek idea.

The ultimate geek accessory or some very sick people out to exploit the unclean?? Take a look for yourself - I report, you get shocked!
I might get some for Rob, although he always smells nice he isn't always that with it :p

Oh and dinner tonight followed by State Of Origin went off - had a great time - even though Queensland lost - there is always next time, and at least NSW played well and so deserved the victory.
Here on May 16 and a few other times I have referred to a friend I have been treating as much less than a friend. Well I have just finished talking to that friend, catching up and dicussing stuff - and it was good. Hopefully this will mean better relations than has been over the last few weeks.
I just feel gutted though, questioning my usefulness at work and at church - realising that I am cutting people to try and deal with all this and that has resulted in people staying clear of me a bit was an important understanding.
I still don't exactly know why I was particularly putting crap on this one person but hopefully I will be able to relate in a more positive way with them in real life. The funny thing was that our email communication stayed as friendly as ever, just the face to face stuff was strained.
Thanks for those who were praying about this. Night.

People are coming around tonight for dinner and State Of Origin watching. You can see us eating dinner between 630 and 730 or so before we disappear to cheer on the borign blues or the mighty maroons!
Go Queensland.
Go Queensland.

‘Copy-proof’ CDs foiled by a marker - says it all. Copying music that you do not own is theft. Should the artists get a better cut and not the nasty distribution/media companies - yes, but obtaining music without paying for it just means that the artist gets nothing and it's not different, morally, than going to a shop and doing a smash and grab.

PvP is a comic I read very occasionally [MA15+], which I don't always find funny, and I don't see Mac OS as 'the darkside' but this brought a smile to my face. It might just do the same to yours.
Had an interesting afternoon, evening working on the Server which I brought home from school. Decided to reinstall the System, which is very easy - just restore a disk image. Then ran through all the updates. I then went to the folder I went back to school to get after I had discovered I had left it behind [cos it had FMP Server in it] only to find that the folder did NOT contain FileMaker Pro Server as I had thought!!! Oh well, I try reinstalling that tomorrow at work. And the funny thing that happened at work today - forgetting to stay at school to take year 8 period 8 - yep, I took the server and went home early so that I would be able to do the updates and stuff using cable instead of shared ISDN and then at 6pm I remembered that I had year 8 maths the last period - oh my oh my oh my. I just got the class two weeks ago, so I guess it's not that strange.
Arghh! I am an Old Farty Pants!
Arghh! I am an Old Farty Pants!
The Paper was updated over the weekend - so all the issues from 183 to 186 are now on line. Bringing me up to date. 186 Had pix of the cornerball competition held last week - which our B team came second beating out the A team who came third.
No promo was made. Although James did pop round to help out. Well it was nice to play a bit of halo with him anyway. Have done some more work on the G4 and ran all the updates and it looks like FMP Server works fine on OS X Server. Although the Deputy Laptop likes to crash when coming out of the remote admin program the actual use of the files seems fine. It is a nice mahcine and very fast. I am messing around with the QT Streaming server section to see what things I can do with it.

Well the wrap up of today..... the rack looks nice!!! Yep not much success in getting it all to work today, but I got the rack in place and have rearranged things to allow an extra server or two to be squeezed into the room. Unfortunately FMP Server wasn't as easy to set up as I thought it would be. I guess I got about 1.5 hours of time to actually work on it by the time I finished unpacking and setting up and just poking about OS X Server for a bit. I think it may be best to just run FMP Server under OS 9.2. I have been touring the forums tonight and it seems to be a bit slow. BUT I haven't run the upgrades that FMP Server needs, nor have I updated OS X to the lastest version - I was also disappointed to find that 10.1.2 is installed - that's two upgrades behind!! Oh but is a 933 G4 and a 15 inch TFT a very very nice machine - oh yeah!!! I want one, no two, no THREE!!! Still trying to work out good reasons why I just HAVE to bring the servers home one at a time - i think the upgrading they need will be a good reason!! After all it just won't be possible on that slow school connection ;)
Tomorrow might be a bit of fun, if it isn't so freezing cold again, when Steve, myself and some of the guys get together and make a joke promo of the next BB PA Camp. Well, we might, you'll hear more tomorrow. See you then.

The 40 hour famine cam is up and running over this weekend. Have a look and see just how scary the youth of Australia can be. UPDATE: apparently no 40 Hour Famine this weekend. When I know more you will!!! UPDATE:that was no famine for Tim Holmes. I will find out why and get back to you.
I have so far removed the wall cabinet and moved in a rack.....hmmm not much server installation is it? I don't know why I am putting it off, anyway I am going to have some lunch and then come back and get started on the first server. That will be an easy one, just starting it up and putting filemaker pro server on it. The second one is the tricky one. More soon.

Well I read through most of the 350 pages last night and seems like it's all good. Just importing 1600 users is the tricky part. Today I will try the Migration software that Apple have made to move from our older servers to the OS X Server. If that works then it is all good!!! If not then I still have two other possibilities. Oh well, I better get going.

I'm sure that the last servers we got came with a 16 page set up guide and a 40 page Admin user guide. I set them up in about a day [when you add together all the little bits of time spent thinking, exporting, importing, thinking again, setting up shares]. The new ones come with a 350page Admin user guide and I have a 1400 page book as well which will be a useful resource. Tomorrow I head into work to set up one of the servers just as Database and web server. As well as attempting to migrate all the data from our current serves into the new ones. I am worried that the change to OS X has maybe increased the power and options available to me at the cost of ease of use. But then again, this IS Apple, and if they are good at anything it's making things easy to configure and use. So i am really looking forward to tomorrow.
As for the funny thing of today - d'uh I forget .... Actually, no, year 9 maths, one of my students came in late and had a huge wad of something in his mouth. Turned out to be a whole pack of those new Trebdour 24-7 gum/mint things. I should have followed up later - they are full of NutraSweet the artificial sweetener that has a strong laxative effect! :) - Rob said something nice in my guestbook- thanks. Maybe YOU have something to say.

Well I am chuffed by this - my very first online article. Mostly a cut and paste job, but from such small things....
Had a bit of fun at Boys' Brigade tonight. Wrote a song with James Noble - '18' is the name of the tune and shortly you should be able to read the lyrics and maybe even hear it sung!
Last night the blogger was causing a lot of errors and so you didn't get to read a tired and emotional rant that I wrote after bible study. The only useful thing I wrote was to try and record one funny thing that happened at work. Well I can't think of anything funny but I did somehow find myself talking about why I believe in a God who made everything. Can't even remember how it came up - but it was one of those opputunities that just land in your lap sometimes.
The new servers arrived this afternoon and I will be spending some time at work setting them up. I am really looking forward to using them - they are going to be sweet!!! And open up a whole new set of things we could do with the students and I can experiment with more services and how they work. I will definitely be setting up one as a streaming server - I want to get some kids together to make a weekly news/current affairs program which would be available on the intranet.
Tonight I spoke at BB about loving one another and thinking about how we treat each other. I was joking with Matty later, that you cn tell what ever I am stuggling with cos it turns up in devotions. Well it's true. I don't feel like I am being very loving at the moment. One person in particular keeps getting slammed, and I jusy can't stop myself. I don't even know why - it's just like I got into the habit and can't get out. I want to - and I don't think there is some magical way to do it either. It's gonna take some serious time with God talking to Him about how I feel and why and then praying for insight into understanding myself and why I am reacting the way I am.
Oh and hi to James who visitied my Guestbook. Maybe some of you other people might want to say hi too!

oh yes! Apple has announced their first rack mounted server. Looks very nice.
That's that! Up to date with marking - for now, although my year 9 computers class rekon I have a test of theirs which I haven't marked - I don;t remember it!!! And as for knowing where it is - well I have not a single thought as to where it's whereabouts are where about. Now all that's is to do is to write the half yearly reports for all these darling children I teach. Today [I should be asleep] is a day off classes :) to finsih off all the stuff outstanding with the year 11 outcomes based reporting package - that's the theory anyway. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what new problems arise. I am going to enjoy it though. Night gentle readers. And may I recommend dropping by the old guestbook and saying hi!!!

Now some would see this as proof of how crap XP really is - hmm, actually I think just about all of us would really.
Be patient it's a big file - over 150 bug fixes, who knows what else lurks beneath.....
Here are some of my favourites:
1. STOP Error When You Start Windows After You Connect a Scanner
2. Driver Signing Does Not Work When the Out-Of-Box Experience Process Initiates a Factory Mode Process [hmm maybe Rob is correct about M$ being the anti-christ, "out of box experience"!!!!]
3. Backup Now and Defragment Now Buttons Start the Wrong Tools [ooops, now that would suck. Not that backing up or defragging are that important.]
4. You Cannot Log On to Windows XP After Running the Out-of-Box Experience [now this is scary - stuck out of the box and unable to get back in - clearly the anti-christ still has a bit to learn yet]

The next version of Mac OS X can be viewed here - a few nifty screenshots show the awesome stuff just around the corner for us Mac users. I'm Excited!
In unrelated news, I have now got all the bits in place will allows me to publish The Paper completely in OS X and so transmission will resume shortly. Well in manner which some may not call shortly but will just have to suffice for now.

Sounds like cool times ahead - The Register has a summary of Developer comments on the sneak preview of the next version of MAC OS X - "Jaguar[Apple Codename] gets an overwhelmingly positive verdict" was the surprised comment from The Register. Oh and somewhere in here was a phrase to avoid, but other wise well worth the read - I for one am looking forward to the next update and just wondering how much it will cost....
I guess this shouldn't surprise anyone, but The Register notes that MS has lost a French case in which they pirated someone elses software. What I find interesting is that the normal Microsoft bashers missed the story. Oh, and for the record, as much as I dislike MS they do have the right to protect their product from illegal distrubtion and copying. Software Piracy is theft.
One test down 3 to go! grr. Oh well at least they will all be out the way then. Will take a break soon and head off to soccer anyway.
Well the trouble with the cam was caused by the freeware drivers for OS X. I guess you get what you pay for. Unfortunately there aren't many drivers for USB cams for OS X. Oh well, for now the deputies Laptop will power /cam2.

Tim, one of the guys from BB are doing the 40 Hour Famine and are running a webcam of the event - next weekend. This weekend I'm going around to show him how easy it is to set up your own little cam site. Once it's set up there will be a proper link to it. It will be a very welcome distraction from marking.
Hmm, according to The Register the Messenger vulnerability is quite wide spread - so update now!
Read about this MS Chat Control can lead to code execution don't think it would effect many people I know, but would be wise to update Messenger.
You may note that the /cam2 is back online - although in greatly pixelated disappointment. I will wait and see how it looks in the morning with natural sunlight - but right now, I think I got a crappy one!

Cornerball :: well a good night was had by just about all - our team came second. I did take the video camera tonight so maybe soon there will be a video to view - I might work on it tomorrow night, although I do have about million things I am supposed to mark so who knows. Although that does usually mean that I spend more time doing things other than what i should be. Man, one day I should grow up, I still act and think too much like I did when I was 16 [well, when it comes to somethings]! Maybe that is why I once was do effective stuff with youth. Or maybe I never was, maybe it's all been an illusion. I dunno. Damm work, it's making me doubt everything. And my focus has shifted so off God it's not funny, and this just makes it harder to cope with stuff. I just see everything as a problem which I can not solve - and that's the end, rather than seeing stuff as a problem I can't solve and then looking to God for a solution - which He has. So for those who pray, pray that I resolve issues with God and then get onto resolving issues with someone who I once treated like a friend but now just find I can't be friendly with for more that a few minutes before turning and trying to bite their head off.
This term is always busy with Leadership Development Course and reports at work, I have just spent a bit of time using blogger to redesign the LDC site, although there is still a bit of work to do. However a little bit of work now will help me in the future by making it much easier to post updates - and I can do that from anywhere - maybe even on course! But we will have to wait and see.
Cornerball is tonight - a game of tag played with a medicine ball and using rules like netball re: movement. A lot of fun and revelry. Maybe even take the camera and make a nifty little movie out of it all - who knows. Guess you will just have to come back and see.

Well, I knew I liked Jars of Clay for some reason. Turns out they use MACs. Disappointing that their common christian background didn't get a mention, but I they do awesome music so visit their site and have a listen.
People who know me sometimes wonder if I have family - well I do and this is my Father's Bush Band. Also if you are a All Saints watcher you may have noticed Dad's beard lurking in the back ground as an extra. Anyway, despite a lot of reluctance I better go to work.

Thanks toSourceforge and their webcam driver for OS X I can bring bjd.cam back to life. Once I buy a replacement for my green webcam - yeah, seems like Windows wasn't problem it was the cam itself.
I dunno why it worked the other day but I just used my purple cam and it worked fine fine fine. But the Dreaded Green Cam of Doom did not :( so since they are exactly the same something must be wrong with the green one. Oh well.
Checked the Strathfield site and they are still available!!!!

Oh yeah, and telstra deny that they were ever even thinking of a price rise - "who us???", they said looking coy. Methinks they protest too much.
Apple annouced the new version of MAC OS X Codename: Jaguar - the offical site link says as much as The Register - with as much hype too. This is the press release which has a nice list of the highlights to come. Surely Apple is on the right track with this stuff.
Also The Register noted glimpses of a rack mounted Apple product coming soon. Sounds great! Now all the back room rack geeks can enjoy the zesty OS that is OS X.

From: The Register - Apparently, the Peruvian government is considering a bill mandating open-source software for all public bureaux, it seems that MS has circulated a FUD communique calculated to frighten world and dog with images of collapsing domestic software markets, spiraling costs and systems migration nightmares. A Peruvian offical replies and slices and dices with great skill to reveal the internal inconsistencies, unsupportable claims and irrational conclusions which the MS flacks trade in.
The first part of a two parter about the history of Apple and in particular where OS X came from - called Steve Jobs and the History of Cocoa it peels away the hype and reveals that "some of the most innovative goodies in OS X are actually mature, stable technologies that have been painstakingly developed over the past 15 years by Apple, NeXT Computer (which Apple acquired in December 1996), and the open source community as a whole. The real pleasure that is Mac OS X comes from the seamless integration of these technologies in a single desktop."
But the real gem comes next week: "In next week's conclusion, Simson Garfinkel and Michael Mahoney take you inside the secret mission, dubbed Star Trek, to port the Macintosh operating system to Intel-based hardware. Then they cover the port of the NeXT OS to the PowerPC, leading to the birth of Mac OS X"

Hot on the heals of robs Telstra price hike warning comes this piece of nastyness with Optus threatening to say "NO!" and pack up their bat, ball and broadband and go home - if they can't drop loss making CableTV and resell FOXTEL instead. Sounds like very uncertain times ahead in the Aussie world of broadband. Interesting comment about Telstra upping prices to make them more profitable, thus raising the share price and make them more attractive for selling off.
Which makes me think about the whole capitalist share market system - but that will have to wait for another time, I'm supposed to be writing a test which is to be done on Thursday - not a big test, just the HALF YEARLY ARGHHHHH!!!!!!!

Got this rather macabre [???spelling???] result when I went to Google and did an image search on "Dr Pepper cans" looking for inspiration for a Spot The Doc - you know that monthly updating thing that aint bee updated since Nov 2001!!!!
Can you tell me how many dead men drinkin' asked for the Doc and asked for him by name?
Speaking of updates, The Paper will get back to weekly updates during this week.

I put together a two minute movie showing the scene of the crime after the Boys came round last night for FA Cup Final watching and xboxing and PSing and generel fun and revelry. They left a bit of a mess check it out yourself.
You gotta see it to believe it - and you shall.
I woke up this morning about 1030am after a night of BB Boys round for the FA Cup Final [I was going for Chelsea, who lost :( cos they sound like food!] and the place looks like a bomb hit it - there is food and, well anyway don't just take my word for it - in a few hours you will be able to see the scene of the crime for yourself.
Something to get my mind of the crap in my life for a while.

In case you can't tell, Kylie Kam is currently showing the Boys in all their unfocused, crappy Windozes driver glory.
BJD CAM is back online using the GREEN web cam, the one that windows rekons doesn't work. Just another reason that windoze sux.
Kylie Kam is back online. I think I had a webcam blow out! Anyway after blaming windows and crappy drivers it turns out that the purple cam works but the green one doesn't. Is there something deeper in that? Who cares. The boys are coming over tonight to watch the FA Cup Final and to spend time having fun XBOXing and PSing. I feel dead tired, you know the tired in the eyes sort of tired, which doesn't bode well for a happy B being around tonight.
Been playing BloodWake on the XBOX. Not too bad. In fact I will go out on a limb and say I like it. If the boat just behaved less like a boat that would be great.

The lucky, funny, comic drawing, guys at Penny Arcade! will see an overview of Xbox Live soon. Looking forward to hearing about it. They had this comment to make:
"Two years ago, Square's presentation for their "PlayOnline" service really shook me up. It pointed toward an elegant, global network with the assurance that we were almost there - and now that it's almost here, what I know already makes me think that Xbox Live is underpinned by a more holistic strategy. In any event, we'll know very soon."

Today wasn't too bad - got a lot of progress made on the DataBase [which was all it was about]. Feeling completely wasted right now - just no energy to do anything, apart from this and even this is boring me right now. Maybe I should just have an early night. Maybe I should finally clean the back room and work out why stinking windows is ignoing my web cam.

Just got home from BB. Had a few good talks with people tonight, both with Matt's. Matty D and Matty F. I also thought devotions was conherant and to the point - and included a chunk of the bible - but not too much. I'm still feeling down. Dunno what it is, work, relationships, disappointments, not reading and praying, too many things to do that I haven't done, feeling like I am letting people down - hmm free association can sometimes work - sometimes leaves more questions than answers. Anyway it's well past time for bed - tomorrow is a day of no teaching, just working on the Reports Database - maybe the new servers will arrive, either way it should be a productive day. The boys will be over Saturday night for FA Cup Final - hoping to catch up with Rob, who I haven't had a chance to talk to for a long time and see what's doing in his life and maybe mend a few broken fences. Hope to see you there.

Found this site about unpatched IE vulnerabilities [WIN] while reading about the Win XPauto update feature driving users crazy - cos there is too many updates! Interesting side note one the second page was that some patches where to make Kaza and some other kopyright killer app work better.
It is strange, that a company that would invade individuals privacy and make hardware upgrading a suspicious activity to stem the theft of their software is helping make software that helps people steal other peoples work, function better on their systems.
